Laos: DEWATS Operation & Maintenance and User Training for World Bank in Vientiane, Laos

The World Bank Group is one of the world’s largest sources of funding and knowledge for developing countries, aiming at reducing poverty, increasing shared prosperity, and promoting sustainable development. As one of BORDA Laos’ major international clients, the new World Bank office in the capital city Vientiane uses a BORDA Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Solutions (DEWATS) plant.

BORDA Laos and its national partner Department of Housing and Urban Planning (DHUP) are very fond of the fact that the new World Bank office in Vientiane, which is in operation since 2016 and which follows a going green approach, uses a BORDA DEWATS plant to treat their wastewater. The capacity of this DEWATS plant is 10.2 m3 and consists of the following key modules: Settler, Anaerobic Baffled Reactor, Anaerobic Filter, and Planted Gravel Filter.
To ensure a sustainable operation of the DEWATS plant, BORDA Laos staff gave an Operation and Maintenance as well as a User Training to the Facility Management staff of the new World Bank office on August 16, 2017. Following the trainings, the manholes of the modules were opened to check up on the smooth running and proper functioning of the wastewater treatment.

As a consequence of Vientiane’s rising number of the population as well as the number of the city’s real estate buildings, the demand for more cost-effective, environmentally sustainable and reliable wastewater treatment solutions increases as well. Thus, BORDA Laos and DHUP are very grateful for the World Bank, as one of the major international clients, and their trust in BORDA’s DEWATS.
