First DEWATS in Lao PDR

The Lao Institute for Renewable Energy (LIRE) started the DEWATS Program in March 2009 and currently is implementing its first DEWATS. The construction was started on 15th December 2009 and takes place at Dormitory of the Faculty of Engineering – National University of Laos in Vientiane Capital. The project is funded by the Finnish Turku School of Economics through its ICI Project and by LIRE within its 2009 budget. Dormitory residents also contribute 10% of total cost as their part of active participation for the project.


GROUNDBREAKING OF BANDA ACEH CITY’S SEPTAGE SLUDGE TREATMENT PLANT

Banda Aceh’s new $450,000 sewerage treatment plant which was designed and supeivised by BaliFokus, BORDA and LPTP, was officially constructed on Thursday, June 22, 2006. The city’s mayor, Drs. Razaly Yusuf, Banda Aceh’s sanitation chief, T. Saifuddin, and UNICEF Aceh’s Head of Office, Edouard Beigbeder, jointly began the groundbreaking of the plant. The plant will treat up to 60 cubic metres of septage sludge every day seived the area of City Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar Regency for approximately 250,000 population.

Urban Poverty and Environment Program International Development Research Centre (IDRC) Canada awarded a grant of CAD 389,000 on Focus Cities Research Program “Easing Environmental Burdens in Slums” to BORDA Bremen and its Indonesia partner network, BaliFokus and BEST (Bina Ekonomi Sosial Terpadu). The grant is allocated for developing options on Decentralized Urban Solid Waste Management in Indonesia with pilot implementations in 4 cities.


DEWATS plant of Bali Denpasar Slaughterhouse in Function

A Mutual Synergy towards Good Environmental Governance

The DEWATS plant for Denpasar slaughterhouse project is reaching the final stage. The Denpasar slaughterhouse which has capacity to slaughter 50 cows per day and 120 pigs per day generates approximately 65 m3/day wastewater. Now has a set of DEWATS modules consisted of 3 bio-digesters unit, 8 chambers Anaerobic Baffled Reactors, 5 chambers Anaerobic Filter, 3 units of Horizontal Gravel Filters, and one indicator pond. The DEWATS plant aims to treat the wastewater meeting the city environmental standard of COD 100 mg/liter and BOD5 50 mg/liter.
