The main functions of the National Development Planning Agency (BAPPENAS) are set out in the Presidential Decree No.138 Year 1999 concerning the National Development Planning Agency. The main tasks and functions are reflected in the organization structure, the process of national development planning implementation as well as the composition of human resources and their educational background.

| Indonesia Water Supply and Sanitation Policy and Action Planning Project
Implementing agencies for Goverment of Indonesia: BAPPENAS For AusAID-World Bank: Water and Sanitation Program for East Asia and the Pacific (WSP-EAP) WASPOLA is a five-year program of learning, policy formulation and implementation. The initial focus of attention is community-managed water supply and environmental sanitation in small- and medium-scale settlements. WASPOLA applies a partnership approach to policy development, led by the Government of Indonesia, and drawing on assistance from AusAID and the World Bank, through the Water and Sanitation Program for East Asia and the Pacific (WSP-EAP).

| Drinking Water and Environmental Sanitation
This working group is based on the idea that drinking water and environmental sanitation is related to many aspects such as technical, institutional, financing, social and environmental. The members of this group are from Ministry of States Affair, Health Department, Department of Housing, Settlements and Infrastructure, and Coordinated by The National Planning Body.
