YEDI
(Yunnan Environment Development Institute)
YEDI is a non-profit organization registered under Kunming Civil Affairs Bureau in 2003, focusing on supporting activities aimed at improving the environment in Yunnan Province as well as the neighboring areas in western China and the adjacent countries to the south, as part of the overall drive for a more sustainable development in the region.
It’s founding members and supporters have different technical backgrounds and a number of renowned local and international experts can be drawn on to assist in the design and implementation of specific local development projects and programme.
It is the policy of YEDI to co-operate with other local NGOs and initiatives on specific issues and members of YEDI have participated in workshops and seminars on sustainable development and the sustainable use of natural resources, organized by other NGOs and supported by industrial enterprises. The nature of work YEDI implements also calls for close links to different governmental institutions as well as universities working on common issues.
Through its close links with YEPB and other relevant governmental institutions, YEDI enjoys good governmental support for the work it endeavors.

Mission
To disseminate environmental information and knowledge in the region
To support local initiatives and projects aiming to protect and preserve natural resources
To develop an enabling environment for poor and marginalized groups to participate in
natural resources management, particularly in upland and lake areas
To deepen and widen ecological research in the areas of water quality, waste water reduction
To deepen and widen research and application in green/renewable energy sources
To provide consultancy services to international & local organizations on environmental
issues
To support networking of environmental/sustainable development groups in Yunnan and
in the region
